Governor Gavin Newsom is in his 2nd term, which is set to end in 2026. CA governors cannot serve for more than 2 terms, which means that the 2026 race will have no incumbent. Attorney General Rob Bonta possibly considered running for governor, but has instead decided to run for AG again. There are several democrats, with at least 6 (3 male and 3 female) that are considering running for governor. But interestingly enough, there are rumors in the political grapevine that former VP of the USA, Kamala Harris, could run for CA governor. She could expect tremendous support and a possibly “easy” election, should she decide to pour her efforts into such a venture.
