Costco’s Kirkland brand has had only 2 types of tequila that they offered, a standard Blanco Tequila, and their Anejo Tequila. But ever since it revamped its original Blanco Tequila a year or two ago, Costco added two new variants: Reposado Tequila and Cristalino Tequila. Reposado is nothing new in the tequila world, but Cristalino is a whole new thing, ish. Cristalino, as its name would suggests, is clear, just like a Blanco tequila. But it is made from Anejo Tequila, so it would have a rich and sophisticated flavor. What makes Cristalino clear is by undergoing a charcoal filtering process, removing its color, and also its oak aged flavor, making it a very special Blanco indeed.

Don Julio is credited with making Cristalino tequila in 2011; now everyone makes it.

So how is Kirkland’s Cristalino? In my opinion, meh. It has a hell of a bite, in you’re planning on sipping or shooting it. Kirkland’s Anejo on the other hand, is more mellow and refined. I might just know this because both bottles were being served as shots at a party I went to recently (here we go summer!). This Cristalino may serve a better purpose in cocktails, such as a margarita or a tequila sunrise.
