Just today, Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency in response to the Bird Flu, in which the first severe case(s) were reported by the CDC today (although in another state) and at several dairy farms (cattle and farm workers) and poultry farms in California have Bird Flu cases reported. As alarming as a state of emergency sounds, it’s mostly to allow the state of California to allocate resources to properly deal with Bird Flu. Bird Flu in of itself isn’t deadly, nor has it been reported to spread from human-to-human. Let’s just hope it stays that way and that California is among the first states to minimize its effects. Also beware of any poultry near you, since some neighbors may actually have chickens in their backyard!
